FON to launch in Hong Kong

FON, a WiFi community that allow community members access to the internet via WiFi access from anywhere in the world, is expected to officially launch in Hong Kong. The exact date and other details are not known at the moment, but I’ve heard it’ll be some time in early October. I’ll update as I have more information.

I haven’t looked too much into this service yet, but given my understanding of the service, this service could be successful in Hong Kong, given the dense population and the number of mobile devices that everyone has here. In general, the costs is definitely cheaper than what you pay for when you use WiFi services at local coffee shops. You can find out more information on how it works on their website.

Hong Kong would be a great place. If you look at my report on router density you can see that certain places are already getting near a tipping point of high value coverage:

Singapore is one great example - I can only imagine that Hong Kong would be an even better location for FON.

Exactly, I found 30 routers around when I was having lunch in Central one day, the only thing I am concerned is how easy it is for them to obtain and configure the FON router.
