Rate, recommend on Yahoo! Hong Kong

I just stumbled upon a Yahoo Hong Kong site, Hui Bin Doe, where users can comment and rate restaurants and just about anything all over Hong Kong. It looks like it’s been available for a couple months now, but it doesn’t seem like there is much action as of yet.

It seems to me that Yahoo! Hong Kong has finally implemented a Web 2.0 service on their own instead of localizing a service already available from the US. In terms of restaurants rating site, there are a few here, but the most popular has to be Open Rice. By far, Yahoo! provides a much sleeker interface (except for their advance search) than Open Rice, which is a plus in today’s web.

Some things they can do to improve is if they could add tags as well as adding RSS feeds. This would make at least my life a bit easier. They should also allow users to integrate this into their blogs or their Yahoo! HK Blogs or vice versa. Allow users to create something like a badge or widget at minimum, kind of like what Flickr does with photos or Open Source Food with their recipes, the cool hip thing to have on your blogs nowadays. The site also lacks English too, which isn’t really a big deal, but there are a number of English users/expats/tourists here as well who could definitely put this service into good use, considering how English is an official language.
