Snaap - photo and video sharing

Snaap! is a photo and video community provided by PCCW here in Hong Kong and it’s been out to the market for a while now. PCCW is probably the first corporate companies I’ve noticed to launch a Web 2.0 product to Hong Kong.
From first glance, you’ll notice Snaap! has similar features and functionality to the already popular Flickr, even the logo have similarities to Flickr’s parent company Yahoo!.
Snaap does offer some unique features though, like allowing users on the internet, mobile, their very own Now TV and landlines (soon) to view photos. They have included a dedicated TV channel so people can browse/share pictures by using their TV and PCCW’s TV box. Once you are a paid subscriber ($38HKD/month), you get 5GB (100MB non-paying subscriber) storage and 20 free prints each month. In addition, they’ve teamed up with a local photo store to offer print services ($0.8/print) and print pick up service at both the local photo outlet and any Circle K convenient store of choice. As strange as that may sound, it’s actually an added convenience and how e-commerce works here in HK.
Snaap isn’t available to everyone though, only subscriber to PCCW’s services are allowed to sign up. So, if you’re not a subscriber to any of their services (mobile, internet, TV, Wifi, landline or long distance phone plan), you are better off signing up with Flickr or Zooomr and YouTube.
As you can see, it’s very platform and more or less location dependent and with those restrictions, don’t expect it to expand and win over crowds from other photo services. Obviously, PCCW is only focused on their existing user base and I assume they are this is a value added service for those who aren’t as web savvy.
