Update 2: In case anyone was wondering (I think most of you are), the conference will be conducted in English with the exception of the panel discussion at the end of the conference, which will be in Cantonese.

Update: I have just gotten a confirmation email from a representative at Zenith events, the organizer of the Asia Web 2.0 conference. You can go to Asia Web 2.0 to get the details and register for the event.

Over the past few days, I’ve noticed “web 2.0 conference” search keywords had appeared more and more in my site stats, it prompted me to do some Googling. To my surprise, I found out there will be an(other) Asia Web 2.0 Conference here in Hong Kong, according to ADMA and organizer Zenith events, but I was hesitant in writing about it due to the accuracy of it. That’s because of the last Asia Web 2.0 conference that was supposedly held here back in January 2007.

Even with a supporting organization like ADMA this time around and a semi-complete agenda, unlike last time, I still wonder the validity of it because I could not find scheduled event in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center or the Suntec Singapore Convention Center events page. Zenith events does not mention this event on their website, in addition, does a shittypoor job of handling information on their event calendar, with outdated events on their calendar. Hence, I find no reason to report false conference information here to get people excited over possibly nothing, again.

Just yesterday, I received a forwarded email from Uta via Rebecca MacKinnon, asking if we were involved with this, but unfortunately, we are not. Since Rebecca is a professor at HKU, I am guessing her sources are probably more accurate than mine, unless she Googled the same thing I did. If she got her info from HKU, then the likelihood of this event happening is a good one.

It will be interesting to see if this play out or die out like the previous one and other media/web conferences. Notable @Media 2007 canceled their Hong Kong conference due to a lack of interest back around March.

Hi Angus, my source was a friend at a tech company who emailed me to ask what I know about it, because his colleague received an e-mail invitation from Zenith. So please don’t put too much stock in my e-mail! I was just surprised that there is a Web2.0 conference happening soon and nobody has been blogging about it! Makes me wonder how hooked in they are to the Web2.0 community or whether the people running the conference actually have any direct experience with Web2.0, other than maybe investing in it.

Their website, incidentally, is about as non-Web2.0 as a website can get. Hmm..
    :)

Agreed. And labeling it as Asia conference, there should be more speakers from the Asia region, like Singapore, Japan and/or Korea. Not the case here. Organizers are out of the loop here.
