GetogetoGetogeto allows users to manage their gatherings or social events online. The event based social network has similarities to Y! Upcoming.org and Going.com. As I was told, Getogeto is more focused on helping your friends organize gatherings rather than for anyone and everyone like the others mentioned.

Getogeto does offer a really simple way to organize social events and it is indeed focus on just your circle of friends. You simply enter your friends’ email addresses to invite, so it assumes you already have a relationship with them. There weren’t a lot of additional features either, such as, Add as Friend, blogs, open discussion boards, you normally find on other event based networks. Organizing larger events such as class reunions, company events, etc., would be ideal, but if it’s just organizing karaoke between friends, I can’t see it happening. I have to say that this is a better alternative to getting countless number of emails between friends deciding where to hold next meetup.

It’s definitely nice to see this service available but I see a long road ahead in Hong Kong, as many people (and their friends) I know are still calling or IM-ing everyone to organize something. Yapping on the phone is still a big part of culture here as well (as I’ve been told).

On top of all that, we can’t forget about services from the US, namely, Facebook. They are already a hit with people here and we all know Facebook offers a bit of everything in their service, including event planning.

  • Thanks for introducing Getogeto, we understood it is a long way to success, we will keep improving to hit the challenge.

And several new features are coming in Autumn 07.
