[...] We are expecting the crowd to exceed last year’s turnout (~100) and last year’s event at Yahoo! Hong Kong was a success in itself. I, myself, is shooting for around that number to turnout, of course, the more the merrier. We encourage those interested in Hong Kong to attend and share. There are six sessions available with 3-4 concurrent sessions, so come share your passion with others. [...]

[...] This unconference was certainly well received in the Hong Kongblogosphere. You can read up on the event at the Web Wednesday entry, and see thoughts and reactions from organizers and attendees at Hong Kong Phooey, 852Signal, Digital Anthology (also this primer), RConversation, d.otted rhythm, and others. Victor of Hong Kong Phooey also runs a CNet blog in which he goes over the participation rules in more detail. I particularly recommend the RConversation entry for its write-up of the stimulating discussion on user rights and government interference - many interesting and thorny issues there. Presence among Chinese language blogs was also good, have a look at SideKick’s post and Drinkazine and Ben Lau. [...]

That would work but how do we get people at a restaurant before 9am on a weekend? I want to say that most people rolled in (shortly) after 10am for the event that day. We probably need some kick ass incentives on top of the free dim sum breaksfast to get them to get up that early. :D I bet we can get a sponsor much easier next time around as well!

How about revisiting the idea of an ice-breaker yum cha breakfast as per my original suggestion? Geeks are not natural socialisers or bar flies so a good local breakfast has to be the only way ahead! ;-)

We were trying to get as many people on the BarCamp wiki and Facebook group/event page to attend. As it turns out, there were many factors that affected it, being Friday night, almost Christmas and Hong Kong people less likely to go out to bars.

Anyway, it was fun and people showed up to the main event :D Let see what kind of ice breaker event we can think of for the next BarCamp!
