CityINCityIN, a social network for China will exit private beta and launch publicly tomorrow. Based in Guangzhou, China, the company aims to bring people together by matching their personal interests, entertainment, brands, celebrities and others.

Social networks are everywhere in China with mostly clones popping up in the market, as well as the entrance by Cyworld, MySpace and very likely, Facebook in the near future. While the local startups are busy cloning the LinkedIn and Facebook and others, Simon and team was busy researching the market. He’s experimented couple sites, the most recent being Wazhua, a guinea pig that couldn’t. Simon says through those experiences, it’s helped them understand what the Chinese market wants.

This is similar to another Hong Kong service, Jijija, which also matches the user with the right crowd, but based on the discussions, which could also include personal interests. Without going into the details of how they match and recommend, the difference I noticed was the design, the looks similar to popular social networks out there. And given that it covers major cities in China, it’ll recommend friends based on their location.

Social networks are everywhere in China but there isn’t one SNS that stands out from the rest, local or foreign. We’ll have to wait and see if the hard work in researching pays off for CityIN.
