The Connect Your World 2008 event is over. The first day was obviously the most exciting, packed with product release and exciting presentations. Most of my updates were done on Twitter, it was just a good platform in delivering news, fast.

To recap the product news:

  • 6 new consumer notebooks and 10 new commercial notebooks
  • HP/Voodoo Envy 133 notebook ($2099USD), carbon body, customizable body colors, super thin at .70 inches, unfortunately no timeframe to bring to Asian market yet. Van Tan has good comparison article.
  • HP/Voodoo Omen desktop, watercooled, big machine. I saw two dude carrying that at one point.
  • HP DreamColor monitor, professional grade, equipment that Dreamworks uses.
  • HP TouchSmart PC. Nice!, I’d buy one at $1400USD. Not a new technology, but I can see this being in some homes. Human interaction makes it more fun (just ask Nintendo). Typing is boring, but still required. Could improve on the sensivity of it, there’s a noticeable lag from when you scroll and the item actually moves.
  • Kung Fu Panda is funny, done on HP. A must see and HP even offered a fantastic 3D piece of it
  • Phil McKinney Keynote: HP Future Concepts - great stuff! We’re talking about the Jetsons. Had to be there, see if they’ll open up the presentations.

You can check out the latest photos at this Flickr site.

There were also sessions on design concepts, product inspirations and the evolution of the new TouchSmart PC. Those sessions gave a good insight on the process and inspirations that the HP’s PSG team took to their announced products.

The overall event was well organized and engaging and the first I’ve been to, so there’s not much I can compared to. With the iPAQ giveaway to all the invited guests, I was expecting some sort of interactive activity at the event or at their mobile session (which I missed), but didn’t happen. They also gave away their new game, Spore. Sounds fun and was perfect compliment to the TouchSmart PC (Wish they give that out too).

With products aside, I met some great people from HP APAC and of course, a boatload of journalists from around Asia. Looking to seeing what will happen in the Asian market.

Lucky! I haven’t had a chance to check out the Omen in person, yet. Based on the photos and vids I have seen online, it is amazing.
